"Hi, I'm John Mellencamp."

Yes you are.

As many of you know, dear readers, the Lovely Family spent last night in musical heaven when we attended the Bob Dylan/John Mellencamp concert at Greyhound Park in Post Falls.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, your's truly is not a huge Bob Dylan fan. To me the entry to "Rainy Day Women # 12 and 35" sounds like something out of a bad dream involving a Stephen King novel, a circus clown, a bloody knife and ... well, you get the picture.

Mellencamp, on the other hand. Him. I. Love.

This was our 2nd Mellencamp concert (the first was at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado in 2001). And, just like the show last night, Mellencamp goofed 5 seconds into one of his most popular songs. Except, in 2001, he yelled "F*CK!" into the microphone so loud that my ears are still ringing. No harm, no foul. But, now being a mother of a wee-one (who attended this most recent festivities with us), I'm glad that didn't happen last night.

If it were any other musician, playing any other song, it would have gone completely unnoticed. Except it didn't. Everyone noticed. The super-cool, sly-dog thing about Mellencamp? He kept playing with a poop-eatin' grin on his face. That's the thing that makes him so damn great. He loves what he does. And you can tell.

Last night was a shortened version of his concert. He didn't even sing "Jack and Diane." But I've heard him say before (and I paraphrase), "Some musicians get resentful about requests for the same old songs. I figure you all made me rich, so I'll play all the f*cking (pretty sure *THAT* is the right word) old songs you want!"

Last night he was on his game. And, because security was run amuck, I couldn't even take PrettyGirl in with me. So, if you don't count the pics I snuck on the fly with RocketPhone on my Facebook page (and I don't), no pics. Sorry. I can hear ya'll sigh, and I love you for it.

But, dear reader, like Mr. Mellencamp did last night, I will leave you with this Johnny Cougar classic...

* You can unplug your ears now ;)
